The oil pan has two sections, the main oil pan and also a smaller lower pan, which can be removed separately if a leak is detected; otherwise, both sections can be removed together. Start with the engine oil and oil filter. If only the lower pan is being removed, the exhaust downpipe may not need to be removed, although it makes access easier. To remove the lower pan, first unscrew the bolts that hold the lower pan to the main oil pan, then use a sharp knife to get under the sealant and carefully pry off the lower pan without destroying the sealing edges. Clean the mating surfaces carefully. For refitting, use a 4 mm bead of sealant which should be applied to the bottom of the pan without excess, and the pan should be placed so that the bolts should be fastened in a diagonal order. After cleaning off any excess sealant, refit the exhaust downpipe if removed, install a new oil filter, and fill the engine with oil. For the main oil pan, unscrew and remove all of the securing bolts, keeping track of their position, and cut through the sealant to detach it, being careful of the dowels. Clean the mating surfaces and then apply sealant to the oil pan, refit the dowels, and position the oil pan over the dowels, tightening the bolts to specified torque, wiping away excess sealant. Finally, refit the exhaust downpipe, install the new oil filter, and fill the engine with oil.
