To check the engine mountings, jack up the front end of the car and secure it on axle stands. Check the rubber section of the relevant mounting to see if there are any cracks, hard or separated from the metal, replace in case of any damage. Make sure all fasteners are tightened, use a torque wrench if possible. Check for wear, carefully levering against the mounting with a large screwdriver or crow bar or have an assistant move the engine/transmission unit while watching for excessive free play which is a sign of wear. For renewal of the right hand mounting, disconnect the battery negative lead and support the engine with a jack, remove the through bolt and three bolts holding the mounting to the engine bracket. Inspect all components for wear or damage and replace accordingly. Reassemble, tighten bolts to specified torque, secure through-bolt and reconnect battery. For the left-hand mounting, remove the air cleaner assembly to get at the mounting, support the transmission with a jack, and remove the through-bolt and three nuts holding the mounting. Inspect and replace components as required and refit the mounting and tighten the nuts. For front and rear mountings, place a lifting beam across the engine compartment, jack up the vehicle and remove the through-bolt and crossmember. Remove the relevant engine mounting and check for wear, refit in reverse order, making sure you get the orientation correct and tightening all the fasteners to the relevant torque, settling the engine mounting before final tightening.
