- Q: How to inspect and replace engine mountings except GDI engine on Volvo V40?A:To check the engine mountings, jack up the front end of the car and secure it on axle stands. Check the rubber section of the relevant mounting to see if there are any cracks, hard or separated from the metal, replace in case of any damage. Make sure all fasteners are tightened, use a torque wrench if possible. Check for wear, carefully levering against the mounting with a large screwdriver or crow bar or have an assistant move the engine/transmission unit while watching for excessive free play which is a sign of wear. For renewal of the right hand mounting, disconnect the battery negative lead and support the engine with a jack, remove the through bolt and three bolts holding the mounting to the engine bracket.
