    The 2.3L 4-cylinder, 2.9L 6-cylinder and 2.3 and 2.4L 5-cylinder engines use camshafts that ride directly over the followers, allowing one to inspect after removal. It is important to mark the followers for the correct placement if removal is a necessity. The 2.8L 6-cylinder engine has rocker shaft mounted followers. When installing a camshaft, lubricate the camshaft, seats and lifters with the correct camshaft lube or moly grease. For the 2.3L 4-cylinder engines, start by disconnecting the negative battery cable, removing drive belts and setting the engine to TDC of the No. 1 cylinder, removing the timing belt and valve cover. After removing the camshaft center bearing cap and the other bearing caps, remove the camshaft. To install, apply sealant to the caps, lubricate the camshaft and check for end-play before tightening the bolts. For 2.8L 6 cylinder engine, disconnect the battery, set engine to TDC, take off the cylinder head cover and the camshaft rear cover plate and pull the camshaft out.
