    The 2.3L 4-cylinder, 2.9L 6-cylinder and 2.3 and 2.4L 5-cylinder engines use camshafts that ride directly over the followers, allowing one to inspect after removal. It is important to mark the followers for the correct placement if removal is a necessity. The 2.8L 6-cylinder engine has rocker shaft mounted followers. When installing a camshaft, lubricate the camshaft, seats and lifters with the correct camshaft lube or moly grease. For the 2.3L 4-cylinder engines, start by disconnecting the negative battery cable, removing drive belts and setting the engine to TDC of the No. 1 cylinder, removing the timing belt and valve cover. After removing the camshaft center bearing cap and the other bearing caps, remove the camshaft.
