To remove the component, first disconnect the battery negative lead. Then, pull the plastic cover straight up from its mountings to remove it. Disconnect the electrical connector from the camshaft position sensor and disconnect the wiring harness from the cylinder head cover. Remove the positive crankcase ventilation hose from the left-hand rear corner of the cylinder head cover. Unscrew the three engine upper plastic cover retaining pegs from the cylinder head cover retaining studs and take note of their positions. Carefully work out the retaining screws and remove the ignition coils above the spark plugs. Progressively unscrew the cylinder head cover retaining bolts and withdraw the cylinder head cover, the cover gasket also must be discarded as it needs to be renewed whenever it is disturbed. Check that sealing faces are undamaged and rubber seal at each retaining bolt is serviceable renewing worn or damaged seals. For refitting, clean the cover and cylinder head gaskets faces and then fit new gaskets to the cover ensuring they go in the right place in the grooves. Insert the retaining bolts with the rubber seals and spacers at each of the bolt locations, then fit the cover back over the cylinder head, starting all bolts finger-tight to hold the gasket in place. Tighten cover bolts to the torque wrench setting in proper order and refit the three engine upper plastic cover retaining pegs to the noted retaining studs The reassembly is complete by making sure that the HT leads are clipped in place and correctly routed with each lead numbered for identification by its respective coil terminal.
