In order for the primary winding test, you must first disconnect the negative battery cable, and then remove the air cleaner assembly and coil primary leads. Connect an ohmmeter between the outer connectors of the primary windings on the outside of the coil so that the resistance will read between 0.5 and 1.5 ohms. For the secondary winding test, once again disconnect the negative battery cable, remove the air cleaner assembly and remove the coil wire from the coil. Connect an ohmmeter from one of the primary winding connectors on the outside of the coil down to the coil wire lower on the coil checking for a resistance of 8 to 9 kilohms. When removing and installing the ignition coil and power stage assembly, begin by disconnecting the negative battery cable and removing the air cleaner assembly. Carefully remove the coil wire from the coil tower, and then remove the mounting bolts from the retaining bracket to remove the ignition coil and power stage, and then unplug the power stage connector. For installation, install coil and power stage stay back, tighten retaining bolts, reconnect power stage connector, reinstall coil wire on coil tower, install air cleaner assembly and finally reconnect negative battery cable.
