To remove the front roadwheel, loosen the correct bolts on the front wheels, chock the rear wheels, jack up the front of the vehicle and use axle stands to support the vehicle, and remove the roadwheel. Next, counter hold the tie rod and slacken tie rod end locknut half a turn which will be used as a guide for refitting. Unscrew the tie rod end ballpin nut, and then separate the ballpin from the steering arm using a proprietary balljoint separator, take off the nut, and separate the ballpin from the steering arm. Unscrew the tie rod end from the tie rod, recording the number of turns to reset the tracking. For refitting, screw the tie rod end on to the tie rod the same number of turns recorded during the removal, engage the ballpin in the steering arm, adjust a new nut and tighten it to the recommended torque. Counter hold the tie rod and tighten the locknut, refit the front wheel, lower the car and tighten the wheel bolts in a diagonal order to specified torque. Finally, have the toe-in of the front wheel checked and adjusted by a Volvo dealer.
