The track rod
Ball Joints require no routine lubrication, and when wear occurs, they are renewed. Begin by placing stands under the front jacking points. Next, remove the nut and disconnect the ball stud from the steering arm using a suitable ball joint separator. After that, remove the splash guard from under the car and slacken the clips at the outboard end of the bellows. Using an open-ended spanner on the flats provided to prevent the trackrod from rotating, release the locknut at the trackrod end ball joint. Unscrew the ball joint assembly from the trackrod, counting the number of turns. Then, screw the new ball joint onto the trackrod by the same number of turns and connect it to the steering arm, ensuring to check the wheel alignment. Finally, tighten the bellows clamp upon completion.
