How to remove and reinstall the Rack and Pinion Boot on the track rod end on Volvo S40?

Remove the track rod end on the side concerned and unscrew the locknut from the track rod. Release the two clips and peel off the gaiter. Clean out any dirt and grit from the inner end of the track rod and, when accessible, the rack. Wrap insulating tape around the track rod threads to protect the new gaiter during installation. Refit the track rod end locknut and then reattach the track rod end.

Count and record the number of exposed threads on the track rod, from the end of the rod to the track rod end locknut. Refit the track rod end locknut and then reattach the track rod end.
