The fuel filter is located underneath the vehicle near the fuel tank or the driver's side of the firewall and it is recommended to change the fuel filter every 60,000 miles (96,000 km) or immediately, if there are evidences of dirt in the fuel system. To start off, relieve the pressure on the fuel system and disconnect the negative battery cable. Raise and safely support the vehicle and remove the fuel filter cover, if equipped. Have a container to catch residual fuel when loosening the fuel lines. Put a suitable container in place and loosen the fuel filter connections. For vehicles having threaded type fittings, remove the lines from the filter with the correct size wrenches. If it has quick-connect fittings, use a 17mm wrench to push down on the retaining tab on the fitting and remove the line, repeat on the other line. Remove the clamp holding the fuel filter to the bracket. For installation purposes, transfer the bracket to the new filter, taking note of the direction on the fuel filter before installing it to the bracket. Connect the fuel lines to the filter, for threaded type fittings, install the lines, make sure to get the copper seals in the correct position, and fasten to the correct torque. For quick-connect fittings, push the fittings onto the ends of the filter until it is heard to click into place. Finally, install the fuel filter cover if equipped, lower the vehicle and reconnect the negative battery cable.

The fuel filter is underneath the back of the car just forward and to the left of the fuel tank and it is crucial to make sure that the engine is cool enough before beginning work. Start by depressurizing the fuel system and disconnecting the battery negative lead. Raise the rear end of the car and hold it securely up with axle stands. Next, undo the securing screws and take off the pressing stud fixings to remove the plastic cover panel(s) exposing the fuel filter. If there is a large amount of fuel in the tank apply a proprietary hose clamp to the rubber section of the fuel hose leading from the fuel tank to the fuel filter to prevent siphoning when disconnecting the fuel supply pipe. Clean the area around the couplings of fuel pipes at each end of the filter, and cover both with absorbent cloths, with a container underneath to catch any spilled fuel. Disconnect the quick-release couplings with an open-ended spanner to push back the coupling sleeves, being ready for an initial release of fuel, particularly from the fuel delivery line to the engine compartment. Plug the coupling or clamp the flexible section of the fuel delivery line to prevent further loss of fuel. Undo the filter mounting strap retaining bolt and remove the filter then fit the new filter ensuring that it is fitted in the same way as the old filter, paying attention to the arrow that indicates the direction of fuel flow. Secure the filter with the mounting strap and firmly push the fuel pipe couplings back onto the filter outlets, giving each coupling a tug to be sure the pipe is reconnected. Finally, securely refit the plastic cover panel, reconnect the battery and start the engine to check for any leaking fuel.
