In order to take the boot lid off, open the boot lid and disconnect the negative lead of the battery. Unscrew the retaining clip, and open the left hand rear light unit trim cover to reach the boot lid wiring harness connector which is above the rear light unit. To have easy access, apply and remove the boot lid sealing strip, unclip the luggage compartment sill trim trim panel, removing the fasteners attaching the tail of the side trim panel which should be folded inwards awhile. Unscrew the wiring by removing the boot lid wiring connector, unclips the wiring harness gaiter and mounting plate off the body and pulls back the wiring to get the connector in view. Determine the retaining clips and separate the support struts which are attached to their upper balljoints using a small, flat-bladed screwdriver. Trace the profile of the hinges against the boot lid to ensure when refitting and remove the retaining bolts and detach the boot lid of the car. Check the hinges and their inexplicable freedom of movement at the pivot points, replacing them when worn out. In order to take the support strut off, open the boot lid and raise the retaining clips on the hinge balljoints using a flat-blade screwdriver that is small in size. To refit, do the reverse of removing and make the hinges to fit into the outlines they already had and squeeze the connecting bolts according to the required torque. Once the lid of the boot is complete, ensure that it appears to be in the same plane as the rest of the panels and make amendments to this by tightening down the hinge bolts and by changing the height with the rubber stoppers. As soon as aligned, secure the hinge bolts with the required torque and repair any broken paint work around the hinges so that they do not corrode. In the support strut, make sure that it is clipped on when fitting.
