To remove and install the rear coil springs, it is necessary to use a coil spring compressor to avoid serious injury. Start by jacking up and safely supporting the vehicle and then remove the rear wheels. Use a hydraulic jack to compress the spring with a hydraulic jack by raising the rear axle housing. Install the spring compressor, being sure to leave a minimum of three coils in between the points of attachment, and loosen the nuts for upper and lower spring attachment. Disconnect the shock absorber at the top attachment and lower the jack to remove the spring. For installation you should make sure that the coil spring is compressed, put the retaining bolt and inner washer for the upper attachment in the coil spring, and while holding the outer washer and rubber spacer, put the coil spring and inner washer to the upper attachment. Tighten the retaining bolt to 35 ft. lbs. and fix the below attachment of the spring to the washer and retaining bolt tightened to 63 ft. lbs. Slowly remove the spring compressor, reconnect the shock absorber, install the wheels and lower the vehicle. For the 1992-94 960 sedan, safety support of the vehicle, remove rear wheels and safety support of arm guards. Remove the retaining bolts from the front and rear of the support arm, separate it from the wheel bearing housing and use a jack to lift the support arm into position. Remove the retaining bolts on the top of the shock and lower the support arm with the spring and shock. To install, lift the assembly in place, tighten the upper damper bolt 62 ft. lbs., replace the mounting bolt and nut in front and tighten accordingly. Tap the support arm in the back and tighten the bolt, replace the control arm guard, install the wheels and lower the vehicle. For the 850 Series, C70 Series, S70 Series, and V70 Series (except AWD), jack up and support the vehicle, remove the wheels, and use a jack to dismount the shock absorber. Remove the shock lower mount bolt, pull the shock off, pull the jack down and remove the spring mounting nut to remove the spring. For installation, put the rubber spring spacer and lower mount to the new spring, install it to the trailing arm recess, and tighten the new nut. Place the jack beneath the trailing arm, fit the shock to the lower mount, making sure the spring is correctly fitted, fit the shock nut and install the wheels and lower car. For V70 AWD models, lift and hold the vehicle, press the lower control arm to relieve pressure, remove the rear shocks and the sway bar, and remove the control arm mounting nuts. Knock off the mounting bolts, bolts on the front support arms and lower the control arm to release the support arm and bracket. Install the jacking point to prevent brake lines, lower the control arm to take off the spring and replace the spring rubber inserts if they are worn. Install the spring in the control arm, raise a little, get rid of the jacking point and raise the control arm completely to install the support arm bracket, tighten the bolts. Install the jacking point, tighten the bolt, install the control arm mounting bolts and tighten the nuts. Finally, put on the sway bar, shocks, remove the jack from under the control arm and lower the vehicle.
