To remove the wheel trim or hub cap if applicable slacken the hub nut while the car is resting on its wheels also slacken the wheel nuts. Chock the rear wheels, apply the handbrake, jack up the front of the car and support it on axle stands - before removing the appropriate front roadwheel. Slacken and remove the hub nut and washer if fitted (discarding the nut to use a new one upon refitting). If the nut was not slackened with the wheels on the ground have an assistant depress the brake pedal so the front hub does not rotate while you remove the hub nut. Remove the anti-lock braking system sensor from the hub, slide out the retaining clips and clear the front brake caliper hose from its brackets. Remove the brake disc, discarding the brake caliper mounting bolts which have to be renewed. Extract the split pin, slacken and remove the nut holding the steering gear track rod end balljoint to the swivel hub, release the balljoint tapered shank with a universal separator. Loosen the lower arm balljoint nut slightly and remove the nuts and withdraw the bolts holding the swivel hub to the suspension strut, removing the nuts and bolts to be used on refitting new ones. Carefully release the outer constant velocity joint splines from the hub without damaging the driveshaft gaiter (if tight tap it out with a hammer and soft metal drift while an assistant supports the hub assembly or puller/extractor if necessary). Unscrew the nut from the lower arm balljoint, remove the swivel hub assembly from the balljoint shank, and remove this from the car, using a separator if necessary. For refitting, take the time to make sure that the driveshaft outer constant velocity joint and hub splines are clean and dry, using locking fluid or grease where appropriate. Position hub assembly, engaging with the lower arm balljoint, and screw on the balljoint nut, tightening to the indicated torque. Move the top of the swivel hub inwards while engaging the driveshaft, and then slide the hub all the way onto the driveshaft splines, pushing in new suspension strut mounting bolts and reinstalling the retaining nuts, tightening them to the recommended torque. Fit the washer and new hub nut, tightening it by hand only at this point. Connect the steering track rod balljoint to the swivel hub again, making the retaining nut tight and attaching a new split pin. Refit the brake disc to the hub, slide the caliper into position making sure the pads go either side of the disc, then fit new mounting bolts and tighten them to specified torque. Refit the ABS sensor to hub, find brake hose in brackets and fix in place using retaining clips. For pre-1998 model year cars, tighten the hub nut to the specified amount of torque using the method used when removing it to prevent hub rotation, or lightly tighten it now and tighten it completely after the car is on its wheels. For cars from 1998 model year onwards, tighten the hub nut to the specified Stage 1 torque setting using the same method, then angle-tighten it through specified Stage 2 angle, using an angle measuring gauge for accuracy or marking with white paint if you do not have a gauge. Finally, check to see if the hub rotates freely, refit the roadwheel, lower the car to the ground and tighten the wheel nuts and hub nut to the specified torque.
