The parking brake cable has three parts, namely the right- and left-hand parts that connect each rear brake to the balancer plate, and the short adjuster cable that connects all three parts together, namely, the balancer plate to the parking brake lever, of which they can be removed individually. To remove the adjuster cable, chock the wheels and fully release the parking brake lever then remove the rear section of the centre console, unscrew the adjuster nut and remove the spring clip. Bend back the retaining tang to release the cable from the parking brake lever cam and balancer plate then remove from the car. For the left and right hand cables, chock the front wheels, jack up the rear of the car, and for the left hand cable, take off the retaining screws and the fuel filter protective cover in order to access the cable. Remove Rear Section of Centre Console Rear Seat Cushion Back off the cable adjuster nut for maximum freeplay Unhook the front end of the cable from the balancer plate Release the retaining clips Lift the carpet to access the cable guide Undo the retaining bolts Free the cable from its guide Release the sealing grommet from the floor From underneath, unhook the inner cable from the brake caliper lever, and remove the outer cable from its bracket, then remove the cable from the car. For refitting, attach the adjuster cable at the balancer plate and place it at the parking brake lever cam, making sure that the nipple is vertical at the balancer plate and put it at the retaining tang. Refit the spring clip and adjuster nut, adjust the cable and operate the parking brake lever several times to settle the cable then refit the rear section of the centre console. For the left and right hand cables, you can feed the front end of the cable through the floor, making sure that you properly positioned the sealing grommet, then re-fit the retaining clip bolts securely and the protective cover if needed. Hook the inner cable back on the brake caliper lever and clip the outer cable into its bracket, engage the front end of the cable with the balancer plate, re-fit the cable guide, making sure to get it right, and tighten the cable guide retaining bolts to the specified torque. Finally, seat the carpet correctly and put back the rear seat cushion, then adjust the cable again, work parking brake lever several times to make sure the installation is done correctly.
