To check the rear
Brake Disc, you must first remove the brake disc and check the shoes for wear, damage or oily/fluiddy contamination and renew them if needed, with the shoes replacing the shoes in axle sets. If contamination is present then identify and rectify the cause before fitting new shoes as there could be a potential issue with the hub bearing grease seal which if failed requires a complete renewal of the hub assembly. For renewal, remove the lower return spring of the handbrake shoe, pry the shoes apart, remove from the backplate, remove the upper return spring and separate the shoes, observing the position that the adjuster mechanism is fitted. Clean the backplate, inside of brake disc, and adjuster mechanism, and make sure that the adjuster wheel rotates freely on its threads. Put a smear of high melting point grease on the shoe contact areas on the brake backplate and the threads of the adjuster mechanism. Refit the components reverse order of the removal and be careful not to get any grease or oil on the brake linings or the disc friction surface and adjust the handbrake upon the brake disc refitting.
