New sealing rings will be needed on refitting so do check for availability before starting work. The cooler is mounted to the oil filter housing on the front of the cylinder block and access is from underneath the vehicle. Start by undoing the 7 Torx screws to remove the under-shield of the engine. In order to make access easier, remove the auxiliary drive belt, undo the mounting bolts, and move the air conditioning compressor to one side, suspending it from the radiator crossmember with wire or straps without disconnecting the refrigerant pipes. Next, undo the 4 retaining bolts to separate the cooler from the housing, recovering the sealing rings and being ready for oil or coolant spillage. For refitting follow the order of reverse disassembly but take care to use new sealing rings, properly tighten the cooler mounting bolts and, after work, lower the car to the ground. Finally, check and top up the oil and coolant levels if needed, and then start the engine and check for signs of oil or coolant leakage.
