  • Q: How to remove and install Windshield Wiper Motors on Volvo 780?
    A:
    To remove and install blanking and wiper motor for the front of coupe models. 240 and 700 series liking start by disconnecting the negative battery cable, remove passenger side underdash panel, defroster hoses and glove box. Next, remove the shaft nut from the motor, remove the wiper linkage, unconnect the wiper motor assembly and lift it out through the glove box opening. For installation, install the wiper motor back and tighten the retaining bolts, and then the wiper linkage and shaft nut. Reconnect the defroster hoses, glove box, underdash panel and re-attach the negative battery cable. For other models that do not have a coupe, start by disconnecting the negative battery cable, removing the wiper arms and raising the hood. Release washer hoses, cowl retaining bolts or clips and clamps holding vent hoses. Lift the cowl to reach hoses, remove it by pulling forward and rotating up, plug-in electrical connectors, and bolts holding the linkage assembly. Remove the linkage and motor assembly, spindle nut and motor attaching bolts and lift the motor out. Assembling the engine, make sure wipers are in the park position, install motor and tighten bolts, install the linkage and the spindle nut. Reinstall linkage and motor assembly, check for interference, motor connectors, cowl partially lowered to connect vent hoses, cowl and washer hoses and wiper arms installed, negative battery cable connected. For rear wiper motors in the 240 series, disconnect the negative battery cable, remove the upholstered finish panel, bolts for the wiper motor protection plate and disconnect the ball and socket wiper arm link. Fold the protection plate aside, take out the wiper motor, mark and disconnect the wires and replace brushes if needed. For installation, make sure the motor is in the park position, wiring connection, motor and protection plate installation, connecting link reattachment, trim panel installation, then the negative battery cable reconnect. For the 700 and 900 series, disconnect the negative battery cable, remove the inner trim pad, loosen and remove the center nut on the motor and unfasten bolts to remove the motor and wiring. During installation, make sure the motor is in the park position, attach wiring, mount motor, connect linkage and reattach trim pad prior to connecting negative battery cable. For 850 and S70/C70/V70 series Disconnect Negative Battery Cable Loosen Wiper Arm Nut Remove Wiper Arm Liftgate Panel and Wiper Motor Assembly Nuts Remove Electrical Connectors Lift Arm Out. Remove the nut from the wiper motor shaft, wiper linkage and the wiper motor. For installation place the new wiper motor, install wiper linkage and tighten the shaft nut, install wiper assembly with electrical connectors, tighten it with nuts and fasten it. Reinstall the liftgate panel, reconnect the negative battery cable, run the motor to allow it to stop, install the wiper arm and nut, which can be kept in place by hand tight and adjust the position of the arm, and tighten the nut.
