Jack up the rear of the car and support it securely on axle stands placed just in front of the car jacking point, ensuring the stands are not positioned beyond the indicated line. Support the rear axle on a trolley jack. Remove the roadwheels, then disconnect the
Shock Absorber upper mounting bolts. Release the brake pipes from the axle casing, unbolt and tie up the brake calipers with wire, taking care not to bend or twist the pipes. Remove the disc/drum assemblies, handbrake shoes, and other components, and disconnect the handbrake cables from their operating levers and positioning clips on the suspension arms or axle casing as applicable. Disconnect the propeller shaft rear flange from the pinion driving flange, and the Panhard rod from the bracket on the rear axle housing. Disconnect the road springs from the suspension arms, lower the rear axle, and remove the springs. Disconnect the suspension arm pivot bolts from the rear axle, along with the bolts holding the torque rods to the axle housing. Lower the jack and withdraw the rear axle from underneath and towards the rear of the car. Refitting is the reverse of the removal operations, followed by bleeding the brakes.
