Volvo Stub Axle

Volvo Stub Axle enhances steering accuracy and stable braking, giving every Volvo vehicle the smooth control drivers expect while letting each wheel pivot with minimal friction. Volvo began in 1927 in Gothenburg and quickly earned trust for cars and trucks that put safety first, from the invention of the three point seat belt to the modern push toward electric powertrains. Volvo also stresses clean Scandinavian design, simple controls, strong brakes and clear instruments that keep attention on the road, all wrapped in cabins known for comfort on long trips. This balance of safety innovation, environmental responsibility and welcoming style has built the Volvo reputation worldwide, and the brand continues to expand its lineup of efficient hybrids and fully electric models to meet future needs. The Stub Axle sits between the wheel hub and suspension knuckle, carrying vehicle weight through twin sealed ball bearings while allowing the wheel to turn freely around a sturdy kingpin. By letting each wheel act independently, the Stub Axle keeps cornering grip even on bumpy or slippery streets and stops road shocks from travelling across the axle, maintaining the calm ride that defines Volvo vehicles. High grade carbon or chromoly steel resists bending under engine torque, and common mounting points mean the Stub Axle fits across the entire range, delivering long term durability and predictable handling that young and experienced drivers alike can trust.

Trust OEM Stub Axle for quality that holds up. These parts use top-tier materials to keep your ride running smooth. Because they match exact Volvo specs, you get a flawless fit and a hassle-free install every single time. No more fighting with parts that just won't line up. Volvo Stub Axle Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to remove and refit the rear brake disc and handbrake shoes on Stub Axle on Volvo S70?
    A:
To remove the rear brake disc and the handbrake shoes on the applicable side, start by tapping off the hub cap and undoing the rear hub nut to remove the hub and bearing assembly from the stub axle. Next, undo the retaining bolt to take the ABS wheel sensor out the back of the stub axle without disconnecting the wheel sensor connection. Remove the brake backplate with two handbrake shoe retaining clips by undoing four bolts, and remove the brake backplate gasket, making sure that you get a new one if it is damaged. Then, remove the centre console and, from inside the car, remove the circlip to withdraw the handbrake cable operating segment from the handbrake lever shaft to disconnect the handbrake inner cable end piece from the segment. At the stub axle end, pull the inner cable out a little and disconnect the cable from the handbrake shoe expander by sliding the end piece of the cable out of the expander sleeve. Undo 4 bolts to remove stub axle from rear suspension trailing arm, note that new bolts will be required for refitting, twist handbrake cable plastic guide sleeve back and forth to release as stub axle is being withdrawn. For refitting, be sure that the stub axle and the trailing arm mating faces are clean, locate the stub axle in position, and feed the handbrake cable through it and push the guide sleeve fully into position. Tighten the new bolts on the stub axle incrementally in a progressive diagonal order and to the given torque, then tighten to the given angle. Connect handbrake inner cable to brake shoe expander, re-connect handbrake cable to operating segment and fit the segment to the handbrake lever shaft and lock with the circlip. Refit centre console then find the brake backplate on the stub axle with new gasket if needed, fit the 4 bolts and 2 handbrake shoe retaining clips, tightening the bolts to the specified torque. Make sure the ABS wheel sensor and stub axle location is clean before fitting the sensor back and putting it in the retaining bolt. Finally, reassemble the rear hub and bearing assembly, lubricate the threads of the hub nut and tighten it according to the specification while tightening it through the specified angle before fitting the hub cap and the handbrake shoes and the rear brake disc.
