Volvo Relay Block
The Volvo Relay Block secures the essential engine components while aiding the flow of oil and coolant so that each trip begins with optimal power and temperature control. The Relay Block for pistons is made of iron or aluminum with a cast iron liner, which provides a rigid backbone. Due to closely machined bores, a precise alignment of the pistons with the crankshaft is ensured. As the oil from the oil passages gets pressurized, it is sent to the crankshaft, valvetrain, and then, by the power of gravity, finds itself back in the oil pan. The coolant jackets circulate fluid around the cylinders and off to the radiator while the precisely positioned mounting points allow the Relay Block to secure the power unit to the chassis without vibration. The beautifully honed sidewall of the cylinder promotes a close seal on the rings, and boring is done with care. Furthermore, boring is performed perpendicular to the center line of the crankshaft, which ensures long-term efficiency. Given that these features are embedded in all products in the brand's lineup, the Relay Block provides a constant durability level for Volvo powertrains and makes subsequent remanufacturing that restores dimensions and surface finish for dependable functioning easier.
