Volvo's strategic market entry occurred with the Volvo 760 in the executive market as the flagship of the 700 series in February 1982. The Volvo 760 was initially sold as the 764 four-door sedan in 1982, but was extended to the 765 five-door station wagon in 1985 and was based on the 700 series platform.
