How to remove the front shock absorber from the strut on Volvo V70?

To remove the strut from the car, start with removing it and prising off the plastic cap, and slacken the strut mounting nut half a turn while holding the protruding piece of the piston rod with a Torx bit, without removing the nut at this stage. Next, fit the spring compressors to the coil springs, and tighten them until the load is removed from the spring seats. After this take off the piston nut, rubber washer and the special 'star' nut followed by the upper mounting, spring seat, spring, bump stop and gaiter.
