To remove the outer handle in non-deadlocking models, first remove the door inner trim panel and carefully pull away the door sealing panel by cutting through the sealant if needed. For rear doors, make sure that the window is fully closed and then undo the Torx screw, drill out the rivet and move the window guide rail out of the way. Break the connection between the link rod and the lock unit on the outside handle by pushing forward. Remove the two retaining nuts, remove the retaining plate and lift the retaining clips and pull the handle from the door starting from the lower edge with care not to damage the paintwork. For deadlocking models, which apply only to the driver's door, remove the door window, drill out the lower rivet and take out the window rear guide. Undo this screw and manipulate the lock cover from the door frame and then remove the handle in a similar way as done previously. Remove the lock cylinder operating rod from the lock motor. Refitting is the opposite process, making sure the cylinder link rod is properly positioned and making sure the cylinder operates before reattaching the door trim. For the front door lock cylinder, on the outside of the door handle, you take off the outside handle slightly, the cylinder retaining clip is prised out, and the cylinder is slid out of the cylinder handle assembly. When refitting, make sure that the lock cylinder is inserted the right way round and that you are not inserting the key in this process. For the front door lock assembly, you need to remove the door window, then drill out the lower rivet and lower the rear guide of the window. On models with deadlocking, remove the cover over the lock assembly, disconnect the link rods and undo the screws holding the lock to the door before withdrawing it taking off the wiring plug. Refitting occurs after the removal procedure with subsequent check for correct operation. For the rear door lock assembly, remove the door trim panel, cut through the sealant, and disengage the lock link rods. With the window closed undo the screw holding the window guide rail and push it out of the way. Remove the screws that hold the lock assembly in place on the door frame and remove the lock while unconnecting the interior handle cable and wiring plugs. Refitting is once again a reversing of removal to ensure proper operation. For V70 models, both the front and rear interior handles are integral with the door trim panels and are not available separately, whereas for S80 models, the door inner trim panel has to be removed, the pop-rivets drilled out and the cable outer released from the handle housing before the inner cable fitting can be disengaged. Refitting is a reverse of taking out.
