Volvo V50 Knock Sensor Parts and Q&A

  • Q: Where is the knock sensor located, and How to remove and reinstall it on Volvo V50?
    A:
For the 1.8 and 2.0 litre models the knock sensor is mounted on the cylinder block on the front facing side of the intake manifold. Start with removing the intake manifold then from the knock sensor disconnect the wiring connector. It is very important to record the fitted position of the sensor for correct reinstallation. After undoing the retaining bolt remove the sensor. For the 2.4 litre models, you first have to remove the air cleaner assembly and note the fitted positions of the sensors because they need to be fitted again in their original locations. Undo the bolts and remove the sensors in the front of the vehicle to remove the knock sensors and to remove the wiring plugs as the sensors are removed. During reinstallation, make sure you put the sensor/s back in the original locations with the angle of the wiring harness preserved. It is important to tighten the retaining bolt to the specified torque level as failure to do so may result in poor sensor performance and potentially lead to engine damage.
