To remove the throttle housing, first remove the screws and remove the engine cover. Next, unhook the inner cable from the throttle spindle quadrant, remove the retaining clip from the accelerator cable adjuster and removes the outer cable from the support bracket. Then, undo the screws, release the clips and remove the trim or soundproofing panel from under the driver's side facia, and, if applicable, remove the cruise control vacuum unit. Release the cable nipple from the top of the accelerator pedal and pass the inner cable through the slotted hole to separate the cable from the accelerator pedal. For manual transmission models, unlock the cable grommet from the bulkhead by depressing the locking tabs and pulling the cable into the engine compartment, observing its path and removing it from any clips or ties. For automatic transmission models from 1998 onwards disconnect the wiring connector from the kickdown switch at the bulkhead entry, use a screwdriver to depress the switch lugs releasing it from the bulkhead while pushing the cable through, and again note the way it goes before removing it. To refit, reverse the steps used to remove it, making sure to check that on automatic models, the kickdown switch lugs fully engage in the bulkhead and the switch wiring connector is upright. Check the entire length of the cable for any kinks, bends or restrictions that may hamper operation and adjust the cable by reconnecting the inner cable to the throttle spindle quadrant. With the accelerator pedal in a rest position, make sure the throttle spindle quadrant is resting against the idle stop on the throttle mounting bracket. Secure accelerator outer cable in its mounting bracket using the retaining clip, depress the accelerator pedal to the floor to ensure that the quadrant reaches the wide-open throttle stop and again release the pedal to determine that the quadrant returns to the idle stop without any free play in the inner cable.
