    Q: How to replace the crankshaft seal for petrol engines on Volvo S80?
    A:
    To replace the right-hand seal, it will first be necessary to remove the Timing Belt. After the crankshaft pulley is removed, place two retaining bolts in it and place a two-legged puller over the sprocket/flange to pull it from the crankshaft by threading the puller legs at the back into the protruding bolts. Once the sprocket is removed, carefully prise out the old oil seal without damaging the oil pump housing or the crankshaft surface or punch and drill two small holes in the oil seal and then screw in some self-tapping screws and then pull on them with pliers to extract the oil seal. Clean the oil seal location and crankshaft by inspecting the crankshaft for any wear grooves or ridges that the old oil seal left on it. Lubricate the housing, crankshaft and new seal and fit the seal with the lips inwards, using a piece of tube, or the old seal inverted to help tap the new seal into position until flush. Refit the crankshaft sprocket by reversing the process of removal and aligning the master spline and reattach the timing belt. For the left hand seal, remove Flywheel or driveplate and remove old seal and install its new and refit the flywheel or driveplate.
