  Remove the camshaft sprocket, then use a screwdriver or lever to carefully prise out the oil seal, taking care not to damage the camshaft surface. Clean the seating in the bearing cap and smear a little oil on the lips of the new oil seal. Fit the new oil seal and tap it into position carefully using a tubular spacer, socket, or block of wood that bears only on the hard outer surface of the seal, ensuring that the outside edge of the seal is flush with the outer edge of the sealing cap or cylinder head casting. Finally, refit the camshaft sprocket.

  Remove the air cleaner assembly and the intake ducts to allow clear access to the left hand end of both camshafts. Disconnect the camshaft position sensor wiring at the connector on the transmission end of the cylinder head. Undo the bolts and remove the sensor housing from the cylinder head on the left hand end of the camshaft, undo the bolt and remove the sensor rotor plate from the end of the camshaft. For camshafts that do not have a position sensor, remove the two screws and remove the camshaft end cover. Carefully remove the seal with a small screwdriver or hooked instrument, making sure not to damage the shaft sealing face. Clean the seal seat and check the shaft sealing face for signs of wear or damage which could cause premature failure of the new seal. Lubricate new oil seal with clean engine oil, fit it over the shaft with lips inwards and tap it home with large socket or piece of tube until outer face is flush with housing, if camshaft journal shows signs of wear, the seal can be pressed in as far as 2.0 mm further to bear on an unworn part of camshaft surface. Refit the parts taken off to access in reverse order and then re-name the air cleaner and ducts.
