To remove the wiper motor, switch the wipers on and off to make sure the motor and linkage are parked then disconnect the battery negative lead. Next remove the windscreen wiper arms and remove the rubber weather seal from the rear edge of the engine compartment. Undo the 5 screws holding the windscreen wiper cowl panel to the scuttle at the front, and using pliers, undo the spring clips holding the 2 drain hoses at the cowl panel front. Remove the four screws that hold the fusebox lid in place and then pull the cowl panel off, unsealing it from the rubber seal at the rear edge. Undo the two bolts that hold the mounting frame to the wiper well, unhook the frame assembly from its location while taking note of the fit of the locating peg in the central mounting, disconnect the wiring connector and remove the unit from the car. Mark the position of the motor crank arm in relation to the frame, un-bolting the nut and remove the crank arm from the motor. Then, undo the three motor retaining bolts and remove the motor from the frame as the frame and the linkage arms are an assembly which cannot be renewed separately. For refitting, secure the motor to the frame with the 3 mounting bolts. If a new motor is being fitted, the wiring connectors can be temporarily reconnected, the motor switched on and switched off again to ensure that it is not running. Position the crank arm on the motor with the marks made while removing the arm in line with the marks made and prevent it turning with a spanner while re-fitting and tightening the nut. If a new frame and linkage is being fitted set the motor at the park position and connect the crank arm to the motor, so that it is parallel with the linkage arm directly above. Finally, re-fit the assembled parts in reverse order of removal.
