To take the oil pump off, you will first need to perform the following operations, then remove the four bolts holding the pump to the front of the cylinder block. Carefully pull the pump assembly out by levering behind the upper and lower parting lugs using a screwdriver and recover the gasket. Clean mating faces of pump and cylinder block thoroughly, getting rid of traces of the old gasket. For inspection, remove the two screws holding the pump halves together, and remove the gear cover, being ready for ejection of the pressure relief valve spring. Next step is to remove the relief valve spring, plunger and pump gears, lever carefully the crankshaft front oil seal, getting a new one to refit it. Inspect all components for cleanliness and inspect the gears, body, and gear cover for wear or damage. Measure free height of pressure relief valve spring and compare it to specified dimension, renew it if weak or distorted, also examine plunger for scoring or damage. Refit the gears to the pump body with the markings on the large gear uppermost, check the clearance between the large gear and the pump body with feeler blades, if the clearance is outside of the limit specified renew the pump. If satisfactory, lubricate gears and lubricate and fit the relief valve plunger and spring. Fit a new O-ring seal to the pump body and then fit the cover and screw it into place using the two screws. For refitting, use new gasket to fit pump to block using pump retaining bolts as guides, draw pump in place with crankshaft pulley nut and spacers. Once seated, tighten the retaining bolts diagonally to specified torque. Lubricate the cover, crankshaft and new oil seal (seal with the lips inwards and use a piece of tube, or the old seal inverted, to tap the seal into place until flush with the unit). Finally, refit the crankshaft sprocket and pulley, in the reverse order of removal, and reattach the
Timing Belt.
