The throttle switch is a device which notifies the fuel system and ignition system control units on the location of the throttle valve. throttle switch consists of micro-switches for idling and for running at full load. To test the switch, unplug the connector and wire the terminals to an ohmmeter, with the center terminal marked as common, terminal No. 1 as the idle switch and terminal No. 3 as the full load switch. The idle switch should close when the throttle is closed and any movement of the throttle lever will open the idle switch just before the throttle plate is opened; possible for manual operation to check idle switch functionality or adjustment. For the full load switch, this should close at 70 degrees throttle lever which is roughly 1/3 of the full stroke of the throttle lever. If the switches are working properly, but they aren't working at the proper throttle angles, look at the throttle cable adjustment. For removal, disconnect the negative battery cable, remove any parts necessary to access the sensor, disconnect the switch connector and remove the mounting screws to remove the switch. For installation, install the switch to the throttle plate shaft, make sure it is installed in place, and then tighten the mounting screws, reconnect the switch connector, install the removed components, and finally, reconnect the negative battery cable.
