- Q: How to remove and install the rear brake caliper components on Volvo 780?A:To remove and install the brake components for 240 Series, first raise and safely support the vehicle, then remove the wheels and guard plate if, as applicable. Remove any ABS wires as well as the brake line from the rear axle, then remove the mounting bolts of the caliper and the caliper itself. After taking off the brake pads, attach the brake line loosely into the caliper, install the caliper with the new mounting bolts, check the brake caliper's alignment with the brake disc using the feeler gauges, make sure the number is not more than 0.001 in., adjust it with shims if necessary, then tighten the bleed screw and brake line, attach the brake line to the back axle, install the brake pads, reattach the line of any ABS wires, bleed system brake, install the wheels, lower the vehicle and check the brake function. For 700 Series, 900 Series, S90 and V90 models, do similar starting operations and raise the vehicle, remove the wheels, then unplug the ABS wires and wipe the Brake Hose connections. Depending on the type of axle, either swing the caliper up so that the brake pads can be removed or guide pins and dampening springs can be removed. For installation part, cleaning caliper retainer and lubricating guide pins, then reassemble caliper, and make sure to meet torque specifications.
