2009 Volvo S40 Oil Pressure Switch Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to remove and refit the Oil Pressure Switch for 2.0 litre 4-cylinder diesel engine on 2009 Volvo S40?
A: To remove the switch, access it from underneath the vehicle by undoing the 7 Torx screws and removing the engine undershield. For easier access, loosen the mounting bolts and move the air conditioning compressor to one side of the vehicle, holding it up from the radiator cross member with wire or straps without disconnecting the refrigerant pipes. Next, disconnect the switch wiring plug and unscrew the switch from the housing, as some oil loss is to be anticipated. For refitting, follow the reverse of the removal process by installing a new pressure switch sealing washer and tightening up the switch to the specified torque wrench setting. Reconnect switch wiring plug and assemble back all parts that were removed for access. Finally, check the engine oil level and top up as necessary, and check for the correct operation of the warning light and dive for any signs of engine oil leaks after starting the engine and allowing it to warm up to normal operating temperature.
