2005 Volvo V50 Oil Pump Parts and Q&A
Q: How to remove and refit the oil pump crankshaft right-hand oil seal for 2.0 and 2.4 litre 5-cylinder diesel engine on 2005 Volvo V50?
A: To take off the crankshaft right hand oil seal, first remove the four bolts holding the oil pump to the front of the cylinder block. Carefully remove the pump assembly by levering behind the upper and lower parting lugs by means of a screwdriver and collect the gasket. Clean the pump and cylinder block mating faces well, removing all traces of the old gasket, and remove the O-ring seal as it is necessary to fit a new one. Next step is to undo the two pump cover retaining screws, holding the two halves of the pump together, remove the cover, being prepared for the ejection of the pressure relief valve spring. Note the fitted positions and remove pressure relief valve spring, plunger and pump rotors. If not already done, lever out the crankshaft oil seal and clean all the components thoroughly, examining the rotors, body and cover for damage or signs of wear. At the time of writing, no specifications in regard to the overhaul or inspection of the pump were available, and apparently no pump internal parts are available separately. Refit the inner rotor with the marks facing the pump body then refit the outer rotor to the body with the mark on the rotor facing the cylinder block. Refit the pressure relief valve spring and plunger and fit the cover, tightening the retaining screws securely For refitting, use new gasket and O-ring to fit pump to block using pump retaining bolts as guides and draw pump into place using crankshaft pulley nut and spacers. After the pump has been seated, tighten the retaining bolts diagonally to specified torque and fit a new crankshaft RHO oil seal.
