To remove the starter motor from non-GDI engines, just disconnect the battery, remove the inlet manifold, and get to the wiring. For gdi engines, remove engine cover, disconnect battery and remove air cleaner. Unscrew the bolts of the starter motor and carefully remove the starter motor from its position.
