2000 Volvo S70 Shock Absorber Parts and Q&A
Q: How does a Shock Absorber affect the removal of the front suspension strut on 2000 Volvo S70?
A: To remove the front suspension strut, the first thing to do is loosen the appropriate front wheel bolts, then chock the rear wheels, apply the handbrake, jack up the front of the car and secure it on some axle stands before removing the front roadwheel. Next, remove the ABS wheel sensor from the steering knuckle and the sensor wiring from the suspension strut or steering knuckle bracket. Then, reverse the retaining nut, and disconnect the anti-roll bar connecting link from the bracket on the suspension strut. Place a jack under the suspension control arm and lift it to take the weight off the suspension assembly. From the engine compartment undo the three nuts holding the strut upper mounting to the body being careful not to loosen the centre nut and record that new nuts will be required for refitting. Remove the two nuts and bolts holding the suspension strut in place with the steering knuckle, remembering that you will need new nuts and bolts for reinstallation. Finally, release the suspension strut from the steering knuckle and maneuver it out from underneath the wheel arch. For refitting, reverse the removal procedure and be sure to tighten all the nuts and bolts to the recommended torque using new nuts and bolts as needed. When tightening the suspension strut to the steering knuckle nuts and bolts, then after using a torque wrench, tighten it according to the specified angle by using the angle-tightening gauge. When refitting, make sure that the ABS sensor and its position in the steering knuckle are clean and after completing the refit check for camber angle of the front wheels and adjust if necessary using the Volvo dealer.
