Volvo XC90 Evaporator

The part of the air conditioning system which cools and controls the temperature inside the car is the Volvo XC90 Evaporator. Developed for the luxury crossover that launched in 2003, it fits with the established architecture of the XC90. The unit is an aluminum assembly of tubes enclosed by fins, which performs similar functions as a small radiator mounted under the dashboard. A distinguishing characteristic of this innovative product is that it both reduces the temperature and acts as a dehumidifier. As the warm air from the blower fan passes across the coil, the liquid refrigerant converts to gas. This transition draws upon large amounts of energy as heat from the cabin air. The fins effectively convey heat from the air to the refrigerant, allowing cool air to flow into the passenger cabin. The warm air's moisture simultaneously condenses on the surface. Then, it collects in the bottom of the case to drain through a tube onto the floor. Through continual heat absorption and vaporization of refrigerant, the system generates an uninterrupted flow of cool air to the conditioned space, improving overall efficiency. Also, removing moisture from the air with a dehumidifier will keep the windows clear and directly help the Volvo's city safety and lane-keeping features, for which it is known. This heating operation works on the basis of thermodynamics. The airflow from the air inside the car to the refrigerant serves to warm the gas in the air conditioning system.
