To remove the turbocharger, start by pulling the plastic cover straight up from its mountings. Next, undo the fasteners and take out the engine cross-stay from between the brackets on the front suspension turrets, ensuring to remove the nut/bolt securing it to the engine mounting on the cylinder head cover. For D5244 T to T3 engines, undo five bolts to remove the heat shield above the exhaust manifold, soaking the bolts in releasing fluid if necessary. Detach the oil supply pipe from the turbocharger and engine block by undoing two bolts, then remove the two upper nuts securing the turbocharger to the exhaust manifold and the front section of the exhaust pipe. Release the clamp and remove the turbocharger intake pipe after undoing the screw securing the bracket to the vacuum pump. Disconnect the charge air pipe from the turbocharger and undo the screws securing the oil return pipe, discarding the seals. Disconnect the vacuum hose from the nozzle control valve, then lower the turbocharger assembly through the transmission tunnel. For D5244 T4 to T7 engines, drain the cooling system, remove the air cleaner, and take off the rubber shield from the rear of the cylinder head. Unscrew the heated oxygen sensor and temperature sensor from the catalytic converter, then undo five bolts securing the heat shield to the exhaust manifold. Disconnect the oil pressure and coolant pipes from the top of the turbocharger, recovering the sealing washers, and remove the heat shield. Remove the right-hand driveshaft and the plastic cover over it, then working through the right-hand wheel arch, undo the banjo bolt securing the turbocharger oil supply pipe to the cylinder block. Disconnect the turbocharger boost control motor wiring plug, then remove the turbocharger intake hose after undoing the bolt securing it to the vacuum pump. Undo the bolts securing the catalytic converter to the turbocharger and the support bracket, then release the clamps and remove the charge air pipe from the turbocharger. Disconnect the coolant and oil return pipes from the turbocharger, recovering the sealing washers and gasket. Slacken the bolt securing the turbocharger oil supply pipe to the coolant pipe and manoeuvre it from position. Undo the bolt securing the differential pressure sensor pipes support bracket to the turbocharger, then undo the nuts securing the turbocharger to the exhaust manifold and lower it, discarding the metal gasket. For refitting, ensure all mating surfaces are clean and dry, renew all O-rings, seals, and gaskets, tighten all fasteners to the specified torque, and fit new exhaust front section and catalytic converter-to-turbocharger nuts and bolts.
