Volvo V50 Sunroof Motor Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to remove and calibrate the sunroof motor/control module on Volvo V50?
    A:
To remove the sunroof motor/control module, pull the front interior light console downwards and disconnect the wiring plugs, and slacken the three bolts securing the interior light console frame. Next disconnect the wiring plug, undo the three bolts and carefully manoeuvre the sunroof motor/control module from its position. For refitting, the reverse steps of removal must be followed, be sure to calibrate the motor/control module the following: When a previously-used motor is installed, close the sunroof and move the ignition switch to position I. Move the rear edge of the sunroof control switch upwards to the point where the sunroof tilts and then release the sunroof control switch. Moving the control switch Forwards, move the control switch in the forward direction for approximately 30 seconds until the sunroof moves about 2mm and stops, then within 0.5 seconds of releasing the switch, hold the switch in the forward position while the sunroof moves one complete movement cycle. For a new motor, follow all the first steps, but after tilting the sunroof, after 0.5 seconds of its release, move the control switch forwards and hold it until the sunroof completes one full movement cycle. From there, calibration will be complete when the motor comes to a stop.
