How to remove the front shock absorber on Volvo V50?

In order to remove the driveshaft, first slacken the retaining bolt and wheel nuts, then raise and support the front of the car to remove the roadwheel. Then take out the driveshaft retaining bolt (discard the bolts as needed; you need a new one to re-assemble the drive shaft). Slacken the nut until it is level with the end of the balljoint shank, and use a balljoint separator tool to separate the suspension control arm balljoint from the hub carrier, using an Allen key to stop it rotating. Lever the control arm downwards to force the balljoint shank through the hub carrier, being careful not to damage the dust cover. Undo the two bolts holding the brake caliper mounting bracket to the hub carrier, drawing the brake caliper out of the disc and suspending it without stressing the brake hose. Swivel the hub carrier assembly outwards and pull the driveshaft CV joint out of the hub flange. Undo the nut holding the anti-roll bar link balljoint to the suspension strut and using an Allen key to counterhold the shank. Remove the bolt holding the hub carrier together with the shock absorber by slightly spreading the hub carrier with a flat bladed implement as you tap it downwards. From the engine compartment, lift the plastic covers, remove the retaining nuts and remove the engine compartment cross-stay, if fitted. Undo the three bolts holding the strut upper mounting to the body without undoing the centre nut, holding the strut down before lowering it from the wheel arch. For refitting, reverse the removal process, but make sure all nuts and bolts are tightened to the given torque, their use of new nuts and bolts and check the head lamp aim and adjust it if needed.
