  To check the rear Brake Disc, it must be removed, checking the wear and the damage or oil or fluid contamination, renewing them if required, being replaced in axle sets. If there is the possibility of contamination you will need to locate the source of the contamination and correct it before fitting new shoes because one of the possible causes of the problem could be the hub bearing grease seal which, if failed, requires a complete renewal of the hub assembly. To renew the shoes, depress the brake retaining springs and slide them sideways to remove the hook from the slotted bracket on the backplate. Next, remove the brake shoes from the expander bracket and remove the two return springs. Clean the backplate and inside of brake disc and actuator mechanism, smear the inside of the shoe contact area on the brake backplate and the actuator mechanism with a high melting point grease. Refit the parts in reverse order of removal, being careful not to get any grease/oil on the brake linings or the friction surface of the brake discs and adjust the handbrake after refitting the brake disc.
