Master cylinder internal components are not available separately, and the cylinder is unrepairable or overhaulable. In case of hydraulic system fault or any indication of visible fluid leakage on or around the master cylinder or clutch pedal, renewal of the unit should be undertaken. In order to take out the master cylinder, first disconnect the battery negative lead. For left-hand drive vehicles, remove the air cleaner assembly. Disconnect the fluid supply hose from the brake master cylinder reservoir, having a container and rags ready to catch any spilled fluid. Unscrew the hydronic pipe union from the end of the clutch master cylinder or disconnect the quick release fitting, being ready for further fluid spillage and covering the open pipe union to keep dirt out. Remove the trim panel underneath the driver's side facia, disconnecting the wiring plug underneath the footlight. Fold back the carpet and release the clip holding the master cylinder pushrod to the clutch pedal and hold the clutch pedal to prevent upward movement due to spring pressure-and release the pushrod. Push the pedal down and removal of the assistance spring. Remove the two nuts and bolts holding the master cylinder to the bulkhead and then remove the master cylinder from the engine compartment ensuring that any fluid does not drip onto the paint work. For refitting, reverse the removal operations and transfer the fluid supply hose from the old cylinder to the new one if applicable, fit a new o-ring to the quick release connector if needed, and tighten the union nut securely, make sure the master cylinder retaining nuts are tightened to the required torque and bleed the clutch hydraulic system when operation is complete.
