- Q: How to remove and install front Brake Calipers on Volvo 960?A:In order to remove and install calipers on the 240 Series, first raise and support the vehicle, then remove the front wheel(s) and disconnect any abs wires as needed if equipped. Clean caliper to prevent dirt getting into the brake line, disconnect horn brake line's connection, and remove the 2 caliper mounting bolts, replacing the brake line if it is stuck. For installation, use new mounting bolts for the caliper and make sure that it is properly aligned with the disc by checking distances by feeler gauges and adjust by shims if necessary. Install the brake pads, reconnect any ABB wires, bleed the brake system, install the wheels, lower the vehicle and check the function of the brake pedal. For the 700 Series, 900 Series, S90 and V90 models, the procedure includes jacking up the vehicle, removing the wheels, disconnecting the ABS lead and Brake Hose, cleaning connections, and removing the caliper and brake pads. After lubricating guide pins and reassembling, make sure the bolts are properly tightened and hoses reconnected before bleeding the system and testing brake function. For the 50, S70, C70 and V70 Series, disconnect the ignition, jack up the vehicle, remove the wheel/s, disconnect the ABS wires, loosen the brake hose, and remove the caliper and brake pads. Grease the caliper bolts, install the brake pads, tighten the caliper bolts and check for leak after bleeding the system. For caliper overhaul, take the caliper off and use compressed air to pull out the piston while taking the safety precautions. Inspect and clean all components, replace seals and reassemble before reinstalling caliper and properly bleeding brake system.
