Removing and installing the thermostat requires the removal of the negative battery cable and draining of the cooling system in a proper container. The next thing is to remove the retaining bolts and disconnect the coolant hose to the thermostat housing. Disassemble the thermostat housing, thermostat, and gasket and take note of the fact that certain thermostats may need special alignment or orientation when harvesting the thermostat. To install, wash the mating surfaces, install another gasket and make sure that the thermostat is installed in the right place. Install back the thermostat housing and tighten the bolts up to the appropriate torque. Refill cooling system over the expansion tank, reconnect negative battery cable and start the engine, letting it reach normal operating temperature. Lastly, drain the cooling, fill with coolant and test it by looking at whether it is leaking or not.
