Wash out the needle bearings thoroughly, finishing off with white spirit to remove all traces of cleaning fluid and grease, and check for signs of wear, rust or blueing and make sure the rubber seals are undamaged. Check spiders for signs of wear and replace the spiders and the bearings if any imperfections are discovered. If the yokes are damaged or the bearing cups fit loosely, replace the concerned shaft as also the yokes cannot be removed from it. To reassemble universal joints, fill bearings half full of grease and make sure that the needle rollers are neatly located around the inside of the cup. Push the spider to the side of the yoke where a bearing is being fitted to make sure that the bearing cup is pushed on the shaft properly and pushes the spider as far through the yoke as possible before sliding the bearing over it. Drive the bearing home gently with a drift slightly smaller than the bearing cup diameter and insert the circlip, doing the same for the opposite end taking care not to trap the needle rollers.
