When twin belts are used, both should be renewed at the same time even if only one is faulty. Tension can be adjusted by slackening off the alternator tensioner bolt. A properly tensioned belt should have a depression of 5/16 inch (15 - 10 mm) midway between the fan and the alternator with normal force (about 18 lb [8 kg]). It is important to check and then adjust the tension if necessary on newly-fitted belts after 300 miles (500 km) driving.
