2006 Volvo S80 Oil Pan Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to properly install an O-ring and secure the oil pick-up pipe in the oil pan assembly on 2006 Volvo S80?
A: Begin by putting a new O-ring on the oil pick-up pipe and inserting the pipe into its designated location with the bracket retaining bolt tightened to the specified torque. Wipe all oil smears off the joint faces of the oil pan and intermediate section, and place new O-rings in the recesses on the intermediate section. Apply an even coating of Volvo liquid gasket solution to the oil pan mating face with a short-haired application roller, which will ensure a complete coating with a thin layer for an effective seal. Position the oil pan and insert four retaining bolts, which you only need to tighten finger-tight. Check the left-hand edges of the oil pan and cylinder block to be flush with each other with a straight-edge and then tighten the four bolts just enough to hold the oil pan in place. Refit the remaining bolts and tighten the bolts in consecutive pairs beginning at the transmission end to specified torque. Finally, if applicable, reattach the oil cooler to the rear face of the oil pan, ensuring the retaining bolts are tightly done up, and check the coolant hoses to be sure they are undamaged and the hose clamps tight.
