How to disconnect and remove the steering column and its components on 1989 Volvo 245?

Disconnect the earth terminal of the battery, remove the upper steering shaft joint screw, remove the steering wheel cover and the steering column cover. Remove the switches, spring and bearings and then the steering column lock. Renew bearings if necessary or else the column. Refit in reverse order with checks for functionality after.
