Volvo V50 Oil Pressure Switch Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the oil pressure switch for 1.8 and 2.0 litre petrol engines on Volvo V50?
    A:
The switch is screwed in place on the oil filter housing on the front of the cylinder block. With the vehicle parked on firm level ground, open the bonnet and remove the battery negative lead. If necessary, jack up the front of the vehicle and place it securely on axle stands so that you can access the switch. Where fitted, undo the 7 Torx screws and also remove the engine undershield. Disconnect the wiring connector from the switch and unscrew it, keeping in mind that you may lose some oil. For refitting, do the opposite of the removal procedure, making a thin smear of appropriate sealant on the threads of the switch and tightening the switch to the recommended torque wrench torque setting. Check engine oil level and top it up as needed, and look for the presence of oil leaks after the engine has been restarted and warmed up to the normal operating temperature.
