To remove the front seat belt, first disconnect the battery negative lead and wait a few minutes. Unclip the access cover from the rear of the seat cushion outer side trim panel, and for models before May 2000, use a protective tool over the SIPS sensor to prevent accidental airbag deployment. Remove the mounting bolt to detach the seat belt lower mounting from the seat, recovering the spacer fitted between them. Unclip the trim panel from the rear door sill, undo the retaining screws, and remove the front door sill trim panel. Carefully unclip and remove the door pillar lower trim panel, peel back the door sealing strips, unclip the base of the upper trim panel from the pillar, and free the upper retaining clip while feeding the seat belt through. Disconnect the wiring connector from the seat belt tensioner mechanism, then remove the mounting bolts securing the inertia reel assembly to the door pillar and take the assembly out of the car. For the front seat belt buckle, remove the rear section of the centre console, slide the seat fully backwards, and remove the mounting bolt before disconnecting the buckle's wiring connector. For rear seat belts in saloon models, remove the rear loudspeakers, fold the seat cushions forwards, and remove all lower mounting bolts. Open the trim covers on each parcel shelf seat belt guide to access the retaining screw, undo the screws, and remove the belt guides from the parcel shelf. Remove the parcel shelf retaining clip, slide the shelf forwards, and out of position, then remove the inertia reel mounting bolt and the relevant seat belt assembly. For rear seat side belts in estate models, fold the seat cushion forwards, remove the lower mounting bolt, and the seat back side cushion retaining bolt before sliding the side cushion upwards. Carefully prise out the luggage compartment courtesy light and speaker grille, undo the retaining screws, and unclip the trim panel from the pillar. Remove the fasteners and retaining screw, unclip the luggage compartment upper trim panel, and remove it, freeing it from the side seat belt. Remove the inertia reel mounting bolt and the seat belt assembly. For the rear seat centre belt in estate models, remove the seat back, depress the locking buttons, and slide out the headrests. Remove all headrest guides, undo the screws securing the lock assembly cover, unclip the knob from the lock lever, and remove the cover. Unclip the armrest from the seat back, remove the armrest trim panel, undo the retaining screws, and remove the seat belt guide. Free the upholstery from its retaining clips, undo the zips, and separate the belt and seat back. For the rear lap belt and buckles, tilt the rear seat cushion forwards, remove the buckle retaining bolts, and the buckle assembly, recovering the spacers fitted between the buckle and floor. Refitting is the reverse of removal, ensuring to remove all traces of locking compound from the threads of the rear seat belt mounting bolts, apply fresh locking compound before refitting, ensure correct location of the inertia reel and positioning of washers/spacers, tighten all fasteners to specified torque, and check the condition of all trim panel retaining clips, renewing any that are damaged while ensuring all panels are securely retained and correctly joined with adjoining panels and sealing strips.
