- Q: How to remove the Brake Booster servo unit on Volvo S80?A:To remove the brake booster, first disconnect the battery negative lead and depress the brake pedal several times to dissipate any vacuum in the brake booster. Next, undo the fasteners and remove the engine cross-stay from between the suspension turrets. Disconnect any wiring connectors from the reservoir, master cylinder, and brake booster, noting their fitted positions. Remove the nuts securing the master cylinder to the brake booster, taking care not to damage the rigid brake pipes, and discard the O-ring seal, ensuring the master cylinder remains horizontal to prevent air from entering the system. Disconnect the brake booster vacuum feed by levering out the non-return valve, then release the wiring loom and ducting around the brake booster for improved access. Remove the trim panel under the facia on the driver's side by pulling it rearwards, then disconnect the brake booster pushrod and linkage from the brake pedal by removing the retaining clip. Undo the four nuts securing the brake booster to the bulkhead, and to remove the brake booster, lower the front subframe and engine/transmission slightly by jacking up the front of the vehicle and supporting it securely on axle stands. Position a mobile jack under the front subframe, support it, and remove the subframe mounting bolts one at a time, substituting each with a length of studded rod with washers and locknuts fitted. Undo the four bolts securing the brackets at the rear of the subframe, then gradually lower the subframe from the front until there is sufficient clearance to maneuver the brake booster from the engine compartment, recovering the seal between the brake booster and the bulkhead. For refitting, ensure the seal is in position before fitting the brake booster, tighten all nuts and bolts to the specified torque, refit the master cylinder, and check and bleed the hydraulic system if necessary.
